Our History

The North America Ghana Nurses Foundation (NAGNF) started with a conversation between two friends, Ms. Gifty Lano and Ms. Adelaide Okoree Siaw. Having attended the Ghana Physicians and surgeons conference, the two recognized the need for a comparative national association of Ghanaian affiliated nurses practicing in North America. They believed that nurses practicing in North America should be part of the dialogue of healthcare delivery solutions in Ghana and that a national association was required to meet that goal. With that, they solicited Ms. Rita Oppong and Ms. Ewura Adjoa Obeng, and formed the association in May 2017. The group first started as an informal online committee and as participation increased, they quickly applied for and obtained a non for profit 501 (C) (3) designation from the Internal revenue service.

NAGNF’s membership grew rapidly and inaugurated at the Ghana embassy in DC, where the current Ghana ambassador, HE Dr. Barfour Adjei Barwuah swore the four founders as new executive officers. NAGNF continues to grow and is instituting steps and processes to move the organization towards its mission and goals. Members span the entire nursing educational and specialty spectrum and all Ghanaian affiliated nurses eligible to practice in North America are eligible to join. Nursing students are also welcome to join.

We hope you will consider joining us and be part of the healthcare solutions dialogue in our beloved Ghana.
